His hostility wasn’t surprising but it does catch her off guard because she had just offered him an out on the conversation. She turned to face him with an eyebrow raised, lifting her hands as if to surrender.
“I was simply curious,” a beat, “I did say we could change the subject and I didn’t mean to offend you.” She offered him a smile, “If you wanted to poke and prod at my personal history, feel free.” Granted, Kasumi’s history would probably be filled with half-truths anyway, “I don’t have anything to hide really,” a pause, “except a string of murders and a black market gun-running operation.” She was of course, kidding. Mostly.
